Fancy has once again graced us with his presence in the UK, but this time at the Long Road festival. On Saturday the interstate stage was packed out with fans singing along to new and old songs by Fancy. Opening with ‘Isn’t That Life’ Fancy set the scene for an inspirational and uplifting afternoon. As American Spirit is a fairly new album I was actually quite surprised at the amount of people that knew the words and came to support Fancy. From playing the Lower Third last September to an audience of about thirty people to playing the Long Road is quite a big step up! The support clearly overwhelmed Fancy in a positive way as he continued to sing for the fans including ‘Losing Game’, ‘Ever Really Ready’ and his Americana take on ‘Dancing on my Own’ originally sang by Calum Scott. As an independent artist Fancy told fans during his set that it felt incredible to be playing a rapidly growing festival in the UK as a small artist, and one of my favourite moments from his set on the Saturday was when he took a selfie with all his fans and sent it to his agent to tell her that dreams really can come true when you work hard and believe in yourself.
On Sunday afternoon Fancy played the main stage, the Rhinestone. Once again, he got the party started with his enthusiasm for performing. One of my highlights was when he sang ‘Forest’, an older song from his debut album ‘Southern Curiosity.’ This song had the crowd signing every word whilst inspiring them to be their own selves without any shame. ‘Don’t Blink’ also off of Southern Curiosity was a favourite moment for me as it encourages not only me but all fans to enjoy life the way they want to, and explore their feelings openly without any shame. Fancy’s angelic voice tells the stories behind his songs perfectly. Not only do fans feel emotions heavily when listening to him but they feel the stories on a personal level – relating in some way to the topics weaved throughout the songs. Sunday afternoon was also a dance party – feel good music in a feel good place! Most fans were dancing and just living their best lives (I know I was!) without a care in the world. This is why the power of music is so important to so many fans. 10/10 afternoon, thanks Fancy! We hope to see you back in the UK very soon.
