Lee Newton Releases Intimate Acoustic Rendition of “Carolina Rain”
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Award-winning singer-songwriter Lee Newton has released a special acoustic version of her fan-favorite single “Carolina Rain.” Offering a more intimate and heartfelt take on the beloved track, featured on her upcoming project, ‘Beautifully Undone,’ the new rendition showcases Newton’s emotive delivery and deep connection to the song’s story. The single was premiered by The Josie Network and was supported by Honey Rock Books & Cafe in Gallatin, Tennessee.
“‘Carolina Rain’ is more than just a song to me, it’s a feeling,” shares Newton. “It takes me back home—to the roots, the memories, and the heart of who I am. Even though I didn’t write it, it’s become a part of my story, and I’m so honored that Tommy Barnes and Charlie Floyd trusted me to make it my own. This acoustic version on ‘Beautifully Undone’ is stripped down, raw, and real—just like the way Carolina feels when it gets in your soul.”
Continuing to celebrate country music’s rich legacy, Newton also teamed with Georgette Jones and Heidi Parton for a special recording of the classic “Silver Threads and Golden Needles,” released earlier this year. Originally recorded in 1956 by rockabilly pioneer Wanda Jackson and later championed by legends like Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, and Loretta Lynn, the song has long stood as an anthem of strength and independence—now reimagined by three women honoring that enduring tradition.
“Carolina Rain” lyrics
I can smell my grandma’s cooking
at least a country mile away
And tears still fill my eyes
every time I pass by Daddy’s grave
Lord, it’s good to be back home
Nothing on earth is quite the same
Just driving down these old familiar roads
in the Carolina rain
Carolina rain
Lord, it’s good to be back home again
Carolina rain, raining down on me
like a long-lost friend
Every time she calls my name
like the sound of a long-lost train
Carolina rain
