Needtobreathe Releases Dave Cobb-Produced 10th Studio Album The Long Surrender
For Immediate Release:
March 27, 2026
NEEDTOBREATHE releases their tenth studio album, The Long Surrender, today via MCA.
Last summer, lead singer and lyricist Bear Rinehart began writing songs on his own as a means of catharsis and recalibration, soon unlocking an unprecedented level of self-aware candor in his lyrics. In a seismic leap forward for the multi-platinum-selling band—whose lineup also includes keyboardist Josh Lovelace, guitarist Tyler Burkum, and drummer Randall Harris—The Long Surrender makes for a revelatory new entry to NEEDTOBREATHE’s catalog: an album that’s both uncompromising and immensely life-affirming in its clear-eyed reflection on personal upheaval and hard-won redemption.
“In the beginning I didn’t even think I was writing for a record—I was just writing in a therapeutic way, trying to get my head around what I wanted my life to look like going forward,” Rinehart points out. “There’s always been a guardedness as far as how personal I get in the songs, or how overtly I express certain things, but this time I was writing everything down as I was going through it.”
Produced by nine-time GRAMMY-winner Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson) and recorded at his Savannah studio over the course of two weeks, The Long Surrender arrives as NEEDTOBREATHE’s debut release for MCA.
“There’ve been times when we’ve gotten in the way of capturing something raw and human on our records, but this album is very much the band’s instinct on tape,” Lovelace notes. With all but two of its tracks penned solely by Rinehart, the result is a body of work that reflects his unbridled self-expression.
