The Grammy winner will be posthumously honored on June 21st

Washington, DC — On the heels of what would have been her 60th birthday, esteemed Nashville producer, past Academy of Country Music (ACM) nominee and Billboard-charting country artist Lari White is set to be posthumously inducted into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame at its 5th annual ceremony on Saturday, June 21 at the Mead Center for American Theater in Washington, DC. Tickets are available now.

“The time has arrived for Lari White,” says Janice McLean DeLoatch, founder of the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame. “It is with great honor we induct Lari, as she joins the company of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Naomi Judd, Roberta Flack, and many other remarkable songwriters who continue to leave their indelible imprint on our culture and world.”

In 2018, shortly after releasing her first new original music in more than a decade, White died from a rare and aggressive form of cancer at the age of 52.

A graduate of University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, White studied vocal technique and sound engineering before relocating to Nashville in the late 1980s. In 1988, the Florida native won first place on The Nashville Network’s “You Can Be A Star” cable TV talent competition. In 1994, White was nominated as Top New Female Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music. She released four albums on RCA Records, all of which charted on Billboard, including one that was later certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Accepting the posthumous honor on her mother’s behalf will be Kyra Cannon, Lari White’s youngest daughter, who is also a Nashville-based songwriter and performer.

Los Angeles-based journalist Joseph Fenity has spent the last several years working on a documentary film about Lari White’s 1990s rise in Nashville. “Joseph has a gift for telling ‘the untold story.’ He grew up on 90s country music and I am often taken by the depth and breadth of his knowledge of that amazing country music era,” says award-winning songwriter and Lari’s widower, Chuck Cannon. “Joseph has spent the last few years going back in time, piecing together just about every aspect of Lari’s musical career. He’s done a ton of research, uncovered some real gems.”
