Bird on a Wire Lands Today

This week it’s approached triple digits here in Nashville, but I’ve got some news that’ll give you chills.

The Growing Season Tour has come to a close. After rounding the bases all summer long, I finally got a chance to step outta the batter’s box and just be a regular human. My big moment? Making my debut as the flower guy at my cousin’s wedding (see the video on socials if you want a piece of the action).

Meanwhile, Growing Season is still growin’—I sat down with respected music journalist Marcus K. Dowling, who wrote a wonderful story about the record in The Tennessean, and I also got my first ever mention in Billboard Magazine—whoa! Never thought this kid in a ball cap would be in Billboard, but here we are.

In tougher news, this month marks two years since we unexpectedly lost my friend Chad Sellers. We wrote over 110 songs together during my first few years in Nashville. What many people don’t know is that Chad had (very quietly) started recording a secret record of his own songs before he passed. He was a master songwriter, and those songs are now being revealed for the first time. A tough day, but the right moment to share what he left behind: one last gift of music. I’ve been honored to be a part of it alongside his family and friends, as we put together an EP called In a Heartbeat with the songs he started.

And today, the first track from that project—“Bird on a Wire”—is officially out. This was the song Chad was most proud of, a reminder to stop and notice the beauty all around us. We sure miss him every day, but his voice and spirit live on through this music.
