Hailing from the small Appalachian town of Boone, Cigarettes @ Sunset named Possum Rock after the term they coined for their one-of-a-kind sound — a riff-heavy and unruly take on roots-driven rock, deeply informed by the rugged beauty and resilience of the Blue Ridge Mountains region. With their lineup comprised of Garrett Dellinger (rhythm guitar, lead vocals), Wells Whitman (bass, backing vocals), Ethan Moore (drums), Sarah Vann (violin, vocals), and Ryland Bagbey (lead guitar), Cigarettes @ Sunset have recently brought their gritty intensity and heartfelt lyricism to the stage on tour with the likes of Dexter and The Moonrocks and The Wombats.
The follow-up to their 2025 EP A Good Year for Hunting, Possum Rock includes previously released songs like “Theresa” (a rowdy reflection on a relationship’s demise) and “Old Bleached Hair” (a weary but tender reckoning with a turbulent past). In a glorious bookend to its closing track “Leave You (If It’s the Right Thing To Do)” (a gut-punching duet between Dellinger and Vann), the EP opens with an all-new song called “My Fix” — a hard-hitting portrait of love as addiction, rooted in Dellinger’s raw-throated vocals and visceral poetry.
Next Wednesday (3/18), Cigarettes @ Sunset will continue their recent run of U.S. tour dates with a show at Proud Larry’s in Oxford, MS. Along with supporting Dexter and The Moonrocks and Ole 60 this spring, the band will take the stage at Summerfest in Milwaukee (on June 20) and Master Musicians Festival in Somerset, Kentucky (on July 18).
